Is the program really free?

Yes! Students and their parent/guardians do not have to pay a dollar to attend Bruin Initiative workshops. We do not charge schools for our presentations either.

Question 2

Who are the AP Prep classes designed for?

Our AP prep classes are designed for high school students currently taking the respective AP coursework in school and planning to take the exam in May. They exist to supplement what is taught in the classroom and should not be used for self-study in place of taking the class.

Question 3

What do students need to bring to class?

Accepted Answer

While we do provide students with curriculum, workbooks, and other study resources, students will want to bring a backpack, notebook, pencils, calculators, and any other resources they would typically bring to school.
 
During workshops, we will always have a spare supply of paper, pencils, etc. for students to use. We also have calculators available for the duration of the class.

Question 4

Where are workshops located? Do you provide transportation?

The Bruin Initiative AP Prep Classes and College Application workshops are hosted at the UCLA campus. While we recognize the difficulties of commuting to the UCLA campus for some students, current limitations do not allow us to offer transportation to and from class at this time. Students in the past have used the public bus system and carpools to get to our class.

We also aim to provide hybrid opportunities for students who cannot attend in-person activities, although we highly recommend attending in person.

Question 5

What are the expectations for students of the AP Prep classes?

Due to the large amount of students applying to our program and the limited amount of students we can accept into the program, we ask that enrolled students take our program seriously. Students are expected to do the following:
Attend class regularly, notifying the organization if they plan to be absent.
Attempt all homework assignments.
Attend all diagnostic exams.
In order to ensure we can serve the most students possible, we will be implementing the following policy: If a student misses all three of the following events: the orientation, the diagnostic exam, and the first class without valid resoning, we will assume that the student has forfeited their spot in the program. The spot will be transferred over to a waitlisted student.

Question 6

Do students need to apply for the College Application workshops?

Nope! All high school students from Los Angeles are allowed to join us for our College Application workshops.
 
The only service we have that requires an application is our AP Prep program.

Question 7

Do you offer SAT, ACT, or SAT Subject test workshops?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately, at this time we do not offer preparation workshops for these exams.

Question 8

Do you offer AP Prep workshops at high schools?

Accepted Answer

Due to our limitations as a student-organization, we are unable to provide our AP prep classes outside of the UCLA campus. 
 
However, we do offer high school presentations regarding the college application process (primarily the UC and CSU Applications) and an overview of AP classes and exams. Please contact us for more information.
