The Bruin Initiative is a student-run organization at UCLA that aims to alleviate educational inequality and promoting higher education by providing free AP and college-admissions instruction to high school students around Los Angeles. We pride ourselves in improving our students' confidence and success as they navigate through the college admissions process.

College Prep Course

In the summer of 2021, Bruin Initiative will continue to offer its college preparation course.

Students will be guided through the college admissions process and will build their writing skills to help them truly stand out in their applications.

The course is open for all students, regardless of whether or not they have attended any of our other workshops or courses, but space is limited.

Test Preparation Workshops

Students have in the past invited to come to the UCLA campus from late November to late May and attend SAT-preparation workshops, gaining quality instruction from UCLA students as well as free materials such as curriculum, workbooks, and snacks.

This year, however, we will be conduct instruction remotely and will likely be expanding from SAT services. We will be offering AP instruction in the Spring for popular subjects such as English Language and Calculus.

College Application Consultations

Students are invited to meet with our UCLA student tutors to discuss and draft their college applications on Saturdays from late September to late November.

This program is open to any high school senior who attends a school in Los Angeles. We can help you with any aspect of your application, including personal statements and descriptions of leadership, and extracurricular activities.

The Bruin Initiative is completely student-run and runs on the enormous dedication of our volunteers. Volunteers are provided a significant amount of training outside of workshops throughout the entire year as well as a large amount of instructional resources created and compiled by our board of directors.

The Bruin Initiative is a service organization that operates under the Community Service Commission at UCLA.

If you are a UCLA student looking for more information about volunteering in our organization, please check out this page and explore the pages under the FOR VOLUNTEERS tab.
